What is domain redemption?
Domain redemption is a state/status of a domain in which the domain is not renewed in allowed time. When a domain enters redemption it is a grace period that is allotted to renew a domain name after it has expired. ICANN has placed this “grace period” in place due to domain names inadvertently being deleted or expired. If a domain falls into redemption it can be quite costly to regain the domain. Most registrars charge a fee to reclaim a domain. While the initial cost of purchasing the domain may be low, domains in redemption can cost hundreds of dollars to retrieve.
Most of the TLDs will not fall into redemption immediately after it expires. Approximately you will have a 30-day expiration grace period after the actual expiration date, in which you can renew, then it will go into redemption period. If the domain is renewed within the grace period you can avoid paying the redemption fees.
